Feeds Help

I was reading a post on using RSS feeds to update viewers on new photos. I am trying that now. I have the feeds available but when I click on the RSS or ATOM link all I get is a page with HTML text on it. Is there something I have to change or do to the galleries or the css?
Also I am having difficulty with the font color for the smugmug footer. I recently changed my background color from a dark color to a medium color. I have tried changing the font color but am not the smartest person when it comes to css. I have changed the color from dark background to light background but it only makes the rest of the page worse.
Can anyone help me out?
Oh btw I am using firefox as a browser.
