I found 2 female galahs (females have a pink iris) feeding in the park near my house today. The severity of the drought is taking its toll on the wildlife & the native animals are all scrounging where ever they can.

They were quite friendly & let me get close up.

Hi Gus we get these Pink Galahs too, man they make a racket when they squark hu ....... and they are so dang destructive too.

I've been putting seed out for some time now, I know the drought is hard on the birds, and maybe me feeding them isnt the right thing to do either, but I put seed out twice a week, and have a couple of Rosella's coming in along with a Thousand Sparrows rolleyes1.gif

They are a very nice looking bird Gus, even though they can be such a nuisance.......Very Nice Shots Gus ..... Skippy (Australia)

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Nice work, Gus. And I love knowing and meeting a bird I have not seen nor heard of.

Uh, Harry's monitor is probably better than mine. On the white heads, I am not getting color nor detail. If it is there, my bad, if not, well, that is easily fixed, smile.

Thanks for sharing. I love "your world".

I love photos of birds en masse. So far I have not come even close to my dream of getting a good photo like that.

But the thought of all those birds around and in front of you on a motorbike, that would be an opportunity come true.

Gosh that sounds great, all that color and movement. And you could do the motorbike thing over and over. You could drop seed!

They used to rip holes in our expensive grain tarpaulins on the farm to get at the grain so as kids we were forever chasing them. In the end i got lazy & would fire a old .303 at them from the house 3/4 mile away. That would keep them away for 4 mins.

The photo ops are sounding better all the time!!!! A kid out there with a gun, birds, together, separately................oooooooooooh, elitism, here I come!

Tks G & H. G the heads are a tad blown out as they are white & in the sun. They were only 15 feet away & i had my 400 prime on so i was actually walking backwards to get them in.

Laughing.gif, I have done that with almost all the larger birds that I shoot. So frustrating. This bird so close...............too close......etc.

Funny! Cool beans, cool shots, would have love to have been there. Would have shot you!

g (do you ever/often put an extender on it?) I shoot with the same lens. For me it is slow on the AF, frustrating. I use the Canon 1 1/4, or whatever, extender. I tape it. I am not sure that I am not better off leaving the extender off and relying on the glass to be good enough to crop it.

Well, just the simple question, do you use an extender? On moving objects with that lens. If so, what has been your experience?

Those are beautifully colored birds, whether they are nuisance or not. Shame what the drought is doing to them. Looks like the grass is cooked, too!
