Oh WOW purple dragons! Love the "no cropping" you achieved.
Thanks Boogie! I've convinced myself that there is another behavior that works to my advantage -eating. If a dragon is actively hunting from a perch then it will return to the same place over and over. They act like an ambush predator, waiting for dinner to fly close to them. Since this guy had a good place in the chow line he didn't want to give it up, so I was able to get within 8 to 10 inches of him...

Good thinking on your part...and what exactly is the food source?
I love the colours of the Dragons you post Dalantech, I'm still jealous that you find so many of them to photograph Skippy (Australia)
Lago d'Averno is kinda unique, in that there is a bike path around the lake. It's both blessing and curse: Dragons like to land on and around the path cause it's right next to the water -so finding them is easy. But if I had a dollar for every time a jogger scared one off right as I was about to press the shutter release I'd be able to afford some new kit...
There are only 2 tags on that map. The top one (Lago d'Averno) is where I shoot dragons, and the bottom tag is where I go for butterflies and bees. Just below the botom tag is a town named Bacoli and that's where I live

Small flies, mosquitoes, etc. Anything that's small and flies is fast food
