Here's an interesting Egret behavior I thought I'd share.
Our boy below is not drinking he is actually fishing, by using his beak and tapping just below water line very rapidly he/she creates vibrations/motion which attracts fishys.

You can see the ripples created by the action.

Looks like turbulence to me! Oh yeah...that challenge is over now. Great shot and an interesting behavior! Those ripples really go way out in the water....he must have been doing this for a while! thumb.gif

Excellent capture Ben. clap.gif I've seen this behavior before and its very interesting to watch the birds on the hunt. They have various tactics that they try.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Your right, although I've seen this tactic several times. I can't say I've seen it produce an abundunce of fishies ne_nau.gif:D

They (Egrets) have endless patience so however long it takes, I guess :D

I'm been working on a shot of the Snowy Shuffle :D but haven't got one that shows the behavior off as well as I would like. ne_nau.gif

more environmentally sensitive than fishing with explosives ... (by the size of the beast... the tactic appears to work well)
