"Updated" date on Gallery Catagories

So I'm shooting portraits at one of my dance events this weekend...One of my customers comes up and asks when I'll get the portraits from April online? I say, but they've been there since late April...Didn't you go into the galleries? She says "No, I saw that the "updated" date hadn't changed so I assumed they hadn't been posted yet".
I use catagories for all my dance shots. I then use a subcatagory for the specific event. Finally, I end up with galleries set up for each day. So everytime I add an event, it adds subcatagories and galleries. It appears that the Gallery Catagories has the "updated" field truly updated ONLY when you add a gallery directly under a catagory? Other then the pain of creating and then deleting a dummy gallery everytime I add an event, is there a way around this?
I guess I would expect the updated date to change whenever there was any kind of change within that catagory (new subcatogories or new galleries anywhere within the Gallery Catagory)...
BTW...This conversation happened twice over the weekend. My less savvy customer just blindly go through the steps outlined in my handout but the more savvy assumed the updated date would tell them when to actually look...
Your thoughts are appreciated...

I was going to post about this too, but decided to search the forum first. I found your post plus at least three other threads on the subject.

Within one of those threads is an explanation of how the updated date works:

Personally I wish they would change the way this works, and I think all of the other people posting on the same subject agree with you and me. The updated date should reflect the last time that category updated, not the last time the first gallery within that category updated.
Another option for those who want the gallery count but not the update date is to use the following in the css portion of the customization...
.updated {display:none}
This way it doesn't show when the album was updated last therfore not to confuse anyone.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention again. I'll make sure it's been reported and that everyone knows it's still around. For standard users: making the galleries "clean" under customize gallery should also make the category that contains them "clean".

You can do that by moving a photo from some other gallery to the "first" gallery, and then moving it back again.
However, it would be nice if future enhancements to Smugmug make this unnecessary. Also, it "would be nice" if there was a "Category" description available (like Gallery Description). It "would be nice" if the Category page behaved and looked consistent with Gallery pages -- thumbname size, alignment, etc.
