cant load avatar

hi everyone

i really hate that this has to be my first post but
i cant seem to load the avatar (the pic below my name whenever i post)

i did a search here and found that the image must be 80x80 px and no bigger than 18kb; I did follow these numbers yet i still get the message "upload if file failed"

Is there a prolonged lurking curse preventing me from doing this simple task?:dunno
