With this picture, what is the subject? What are you trying to say?

I'm looking at the picture, and I find my eyes wandering around, trying to find something to focus on, but the most I find is the bottom of the curtain, and the shoes that are towards the back...

To be honest this was a snap shot of sorts. I was watching my sons performance and playing around with the camera through the different dances. This group came out in dark hoods and the red light. I was attempting to capture the contrast of the dark figures against the red background. I included the EXIF hopeing someone could point out the mistakes I made.

    Hmm, I see...

In that case, perhaps if you tried to brighten up the background to increase the contrast, as is, it seems a little dark...

I don't think this one will work. Think of this one as an early experiment to get you to the winner. Keep playing around. If you want to emphasize the contrast between the figures and the background you're going to have to isolate and simplify the subject. There are too many shapes here. Try one person only or two people engaged in some way.
