Shutter speed for sport + Minimotor pictures.

I have very hard to estimate the right shutter speed for sport and movement. I tend to always use very big apertures and high ISO instead. Stupid me! :-)

How fast shutter speed do I need to freeze runner that is running. When I photograph runners I use about 1/500sec or 1/650sec. When photographing minimotors I have about 1/1000 or faster. Is that "to fast"? can I use slower ones and still get ultra sharp images. Is there no shutter charts that is possible to use out there? :-)

And some pictures I took on minimotors (large once) on a race track.

Yea use lower shutter speeds, like 1/250 or 1/500 ( to get motion blur in the background) and pan the shot completely, I would use lower ISO settings as well 100 or 200 unless its dark out or something. Play around with it, or ask one of the street bike photographers on the forum here, they're experts when it comes down to it.

If panning motorbike i never go above 1/250, running i would shoot wide open to blur the background
