Printing pictures posted on SmugMug

I am concerned about people "stealing" pictures from SmugMug galleries. As a test, I downloaded one of the images from my gallery (Right clicked Save Picture As), went into Photoshop & opened it, played with it a bit, made it 300dpi & an 8X10 size, and then printed it. Unfortunately, the print was OK. It was not perfect, but from more than a foot away it looked just fine. And on my screen it looks good.

So what do you do to prevent this from happening? Do you embed a copyright notice into each picture you post on SumgMug? I did that to a few, but it seems to me to distract from the pic.

So why should someone pay for a picture when they can download & print it for free (Other than the fact that it does violate copyright, but who is going to spend the money to sue on something like that)?

Thanks

I use right click protection, turn off external links, blogs, forums, and use the custom watermark function to foil those "print screen" photo thieves. Of course this is all with a pro account, I don't keep track of all the options on the other accounts, so I don't know what the others do. Oh yeah...there are alot of tips on the HELP page, spend some time there, you won't regret it.

The fact of the matter is that photo theft is here to stay. umph.gif

The right-click protections, disallowing large and original viewing and watermarks are a sure-fired way to foil the attempt to get a completely perfect print.

Of course, the people that are doing this sort of thing don't care about original quality, and will be happy with their print. But look at it this way, with the watermark there, your photo becomes marketing material if you have a url there.
