Kinda excited here! Just got my new Nikon 80-200 2.8 today! Cant wait to get out and shoot with it this weekend. I have 3 portrait gigs and after that I am hitting the road to go run it though the paces in the Olympic Mts area of Washington. I cant wait to see just how sharp this guy is. Who knows I may pull it out for the wedding I have on Friday and maybe the portrait gigs too! One thing for sure is that this thing is HUGE and HEAVY! I think if I dropped it on my foot I would need an X-Ray.

I looked and looked before I bit the bullet. Since I make my living with my camera I dont have the disposable income that many hobby shooters have. I did not go for the VR 70-200 2.8 and went for the older 80-200 2.8. I got the grey market version and saved even more. I pretty much buy all grey stuff and have never had a problem so (knock on wood) this will be the same. I got this one for just over $800, vs $920 for the USA and over $1400 for the VR. The way my bizarre head works that means that I can now pick up a fixed app short zoom (18-50 or 11-?, 2.8ers) with the cash I saved on not getting the VR. I think that I will have to head out downtown or to the beach in a few hours when the light gets good and take a few shots tonite. I only hope I dont throw out a shoulder lugging it around...
