I am having no luck with a RSS feed to my Wordpress site which I am in the early stages of getting up and running. That site is

http://www.stuckinthemud.biz/

I am trying to access an RSS feed from one of my smugmug galleries, namely

https://www.eworley.smugmug.com/gallery/855765

I tried to follow the direction in "right clicking" on the RSS Icon. Then copying the link into my RSS reader on my blog site noted above. When I do I always get the following message
  • An error has occured; the feed is probably down. Try again later.
Nothing every happens other than this message. Can you help me in this problem. I would appreciate any help that I could get.

Thanks.

Hopefully one of the feeds experts will see this. I'll also try to track down the answer.

I am not sure if this is related to your problem or not. I tried a bunch of feed syndications sites over the last few weeks trying to get the email feed function working.

One thing I came accross is that some of the sites do not like the way SM formats its feed. SM uses characters like &, =, and ?

If I included those characters sites like wordpress (I did not test wordpress, just others like it) would choke. If I took them out while testing it would take the feed. Naturally the feed would not work as it was invalid. But it let me know that it was the special characters killing it.

Like I said, this may not be the problem, but it is something that I ran into working with other sites like wordpress.

    First thanks for your help!!!

But I am not real sure what you mean. My feed url is as follows:

    http://www.eworley.smugmug.com/hack/feed.mg?Type=gallery&Data=855765&format=rss200

Are the ? and = in this feed what you are talking about?

I think the ? and the & are the bigger ones. For some reason some RSS tools I have been playing with do not like them.

I tried opening your feed and look at the error I get:
    ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.eworley.smugmug.com/hack/feed.mg?
    The following error was encountered:
    • Zero Sized Reply
Notice that the URL stops after the ?

I kept checking and now I am getting:

XML Parsing Error: no element found
    Location: http://www.eworley.smugmug.com/hack/feed.mg?Type=gallery&Data=855765&format=rss200
    Line Number 3, Column 1:

This is the same error that Emilyza was getting. She has a thread open on this issue. You might want to stick your head in that thread and let SM know you are also having the same problem.

feeds are funny things as the standards have evolved. Also Atom and RSS behave a little differently and provide different results.

Are you set on using worpress or can you try another service?
