Does anyone have a new or used version of Photoshop 7 (or higher) they are willing to part with?

Reason being, I'm trying to find it cheaper than retail and I don't mind buying used. No cracked stuff please. There's some used ones on Amazon.com for $239 and up. Is anyone able to sell for cheaper than that or point me in a good direction?

CS2 is about $300 if you know someone at a major university. The upgrade to CS2 is $160-170 if you have any previous version. It might be a better deal than buying PS7 and being behind on some very useful features.

But it's illegal to use CS2 Educational for commercial purposes.

Why spend 300$ if you're only going to have to spend another 700$ later for the full version?

You also want to be careful that the person selling you PS7 is really selling it, and not continuing to use the serial number to upgrade to CS2, or something shady like that.

Actually it's not illegal, there is no law saying "Using an educational copy of PS for commercial purposes is illegal". Unethical? Maybe. Illegal? No. I suggest you do a search on dpreview, this was recently discussed there.

Have you considered trying GimpShop? http://plasticbugs.com/index.php?p=241

Thanks kkart, but GIMPShop doesn't have CMYK and LAB color modes, which is something I want.

Oh, also, straight from Adobe's site:

    http://www.adobe.com/education/purchasing/faq.html#profcomm
    Student question

"I'm very interested in buying the Education version of Adobe Creative Suite, but first I want to know if the software can be used to produce work for paying customers once I am working in the industry, or do I have to buy a different version of Creative Suite once I'm working in the industry?”
    Answer

Good news! You can use Adobe Education software (any title!) to produce commercial/professional paid-for work when you leave school, or even while you are in school. In this regard, Adobe does not limit how student software is used. So students can use it to learn and to make money!

(Of course, students must agree to the terms of the End User Licensing Agreement — which appears during installation — just as every software customer must do.)

Speaking from experience, university/college bookstores require a showing of the 'student id' in order to purchase the educational versions of software from them. It's logged in their system - student id and software purchase. not that anyone ever goes and checks that sort of thing, but just to be aware.

I managed to find a real & registerable version of PS6 for around $90. I'd upgrade to CS2, but school bills come first.

That would put my total cost around $240 for CS2. Not bad I say.
