Acadia National Park, Maine

Hi everyone,

My trip to Maine has come to an end, but not before I had the opportunity to try my hand at some landscapes at Acadia National Park in Maine. This is a beautiful plot of earth once owned by the Rockefellers and donated to the state so that all may enjoy. This is a landscape photographer's dream, and the 1 morning I had to shoot can hardly do it justice - one would indeed need a lifetime. Here are two images I captured: the first is taken within 1 hour of sunrise at Sand Beach, the second is a mid-morning capture of the rugged Maine coast at Monument Cove.

Cheers,
Kevin K.

    Hi Kevin

I liked your first photo with the warm tones the sand brings to your photo. A question - Why is the sky in the image a purple colour? Or is that just the screen I'm looking on? I also like the textures in the rocks in the 2nd photo, and the seagull adds to your image, by creating in space in the 'empty' blue sky.

    Hi Toadlet,

Thanks for taking the time to comment on the pictures. In answer to your question, the sky in the first photo looks purple because (this answer is going to be like one of those "create your own ending" books):
    1) My post-processing was too aggressive while trying to bring out the colors of the sky during sunrise.
    2) It's your screen.
    3) This was the actual color at the time the photo was taken.

It's probably the first of the three...guess I'll have to force myself to go on another photography session in Acadia!

    Cheers,
    Kevin K.

I like what's going on in the foreground for both, but there's too much sky in the first one plus the gradient is odd. It's a nice touch to have the bird flying in the 2nd one. Perhaps a sunrise would have had more flattering light.
