I can't think of a better forum than this on dgrin. :dunno

I just read an article (http://www.smartmoney.com/consumer/index.cfm?story=20050303) about how it is becoming all to easy to simply log onto your county clerk's office website to download documents that contain your social security number and related information such as your address, phone number, signature, etc.

I just want to make sure lots of people see this.
Y'all don't want to hear me, you just want to dance.

As if it's not bad enough out there. In about 45 seconds, I was able to go on the NYC Clerk's website, find a guy that just got a $5.5 Million Mortgage, his name, phone numbers, address, social security number, bank records, and more. I'm all for public access and FOILs but this is rediculous :uhoh

This is indeed ridiculous. I mean, this should NOT be possible. You now have all the data to steal this guy's identity.

Maybe it's a good thing to somehow report this...? I reckon that some local news station will eat this up (considering the attention that some news stories got when data was stolen - or lost on laptops - that did not even include people's soc-sec number).
I can't grasp the notion of time.

When I hear the earth will melt into the sun,
    in two billion years,
    all I can think is:
"Will that be on a Monday?"
