Mississippi Kite

It's been so damn hot in Texas, I haven't been out shooting in ages, pansy that I am. But this morning I looked out my kitchen window and there were six, count 'em six, Mississippi Kites doing their aerial acrobatics above the field across from my house! Never seen 'em here b/4 in 15 years. They're so fast. Although the real photo would've been me trying to focus and shoot, spinning and turning to catch them!

I hand-held my 100-400IS and used manual focus (no way autofocus would've worked), but I did get a couple of shots I'm not embarrassed to show. A whole lot went immediately into the recycle bin.

Here's a juvenile with a cicada in its talon.

And an adult heading for a bug.

They're Mississippi Kites -- one shot of a juvenile, one of an adult.

Those are great shots! I especially like the first one. clap.gifclap.gif

Sounds like in those conditions I would have fallen and broken some bones - not to mention my camera!
