Today I met an interesting man who recently gave away all of his Nikon camera gear inluding digital lenses... amongst them a 400mm never used even once. I took some shots while on my lunch hour. The rest of the shots, along with a short story, are in this gallery:

Great story, It is sad to see the trees turning so early, it fits well with the gentleman's own mortality.

    Cheers

Nice story & shots saurora. Odd you mentioned the trees turning...as you know we are upside down way under here in australia. Yesterday i could feel a change in that it was getting to be a hot day.

    Winter is gone for us.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, I'm afraid we will have little to no color change this fall due to the extremely hot summer we have had. I guess the trees are "burnt" and not going to hang on to the leaves in time for cooler weather. We didn't have hardly any rain this year, either, so that does not help. I hope I'm wrong!!! It's my favorite time of year and California does not get much seasonal color compared to the rest of the states. :cry

It always blows my mind, Gus, to think that other parts of the world are experiencing winter while we are cooking away!!! You're right, it's your turn for summer! However, we still have the equally volatile month of September ahead of us.

What a wonderful story! I sat and read it on my lunch hour today. I had decided not to go to the park I usually go to with my camera as it is overcast. So, I enjoyed your lunch hour shoot instead. Wonderful story too, and a bit sad.

I grew up in So CA, and I only remember brown leaves in the fall - tho this seems really early. We had more rain in the East this summer, so I hope we have nice color. Our earliest tree to turn is just starting to get some red in the leaves. Fall is so bittersweet. A great backdrop for your story.

Funny you should make that association, Stan. Fall is my favorite time of year...I love the colors and the change in the light and weather. But it also has a very melancholy feel to it. It always feels to me like a time of endings, rather than beginnings. So somehow I always feel nostalgic this time of year.

Thanks, Nir! It was an unusually pretty day and with the leaves turning and meeting Sheba and her owner, it was a really fantastic lunch hour!

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

You can take Harry out of New York, but you'll never get New York out of Harry. :D
