Just a few snaps from this past weekends Air and Water Show in which the feature act was the Navy Blue Angels. I shot the show with fellow member Gluwater (Nick) and we had a great time. I hope that you enjoy the snaps and please feel free to offer some constructive criticism, I am always eager to learn. All captures taken with a Nikon D2H and 80-400mm handheld.

Nice shots! Glad you were able to get out there on such a good weather day.

(...and so far, this is an Illinois-only thread)

Thank you David, yep...I did get out on the best weather day. I did go to the practice on Friday, but the heavy cloud cover and low haze made for terrible shooting. But it was still a good opportunity to see what the Angels were going to do so I could capture their routines better. I had alot of throwaways, but some of the keepers were at least decent. Thanks for checking them out.

Nice pics. It was a great day to be on the lake for the show. I've posted some more Blue Angels pics from yesterday HERE. I have yet get to the rest of the pics from the show.

Very nice, Chad. I like the look with the bump in saturation. I'm guessing that we were shooting aweful near one another. I was shooting from the North Avenue Beach concession stand.

I was right in front of the "Shell" tent 20 feet from the water at North Ave. beach. We had to be within a 100 yards of each other. I made no saturation adjustments at all on these pics. It's all exposure and white balance during RAW conversion and a 10% cooling filter in PS.

Yep, we were probably within a stones throw of each other. I was directly center on the east side of the concession stand along the railing, it is my "official" spot for the last three years. How did you get passes to get inside the VIP area? I was thinking about contacting the mayor's office of special events and begging for next year.

These are awsome Frank! Now how am I supposed to post the rest of my shots when you post a flyby and vapor trails, both of which I did not get? I knew you got some great shots but WOW. Oh well, we'll just need to go again next year so I can get some better shots. It was great spending the day with you.

Thanks very much, Nick. I really enjoyed your company on Sunday, I had a great time and look forward to shooting something again before the weather changes for the worse.

It's tough to make the time to do the things that we want to do, but we can't always make the time. How about next year? An Illinois and surrounding area DGrin members air show get-together and shoot. I'm in!clap.gif

The more, the merrier. I had better ask the boss for that Sunday off real soon.

A reminder there exists a midwest shooters thread to arrange group outings.

So far, still an all-Illinois thread. This might be a DGrin first.

Well David, you have a year to secure permission and, provided the weather holds up, it will be well worth the effort. Thanks for the link, I am headed there now to read what is what.
