Wheeler Sun Predictor

Just when you thought photography couldn't get more geeky...

The Wheeler Sunpredictor (www.sunpredictor.com) helps predict where
the sun will be at any given time during the day. It comes either as a
Windows Mobile Application or in combination with iPaq and other gizmos.

Why do you need this? Well, if you're like me, you don't really want to spend
a lot of time trying to figure out where the sun will be when you want to make
a photograph. You can also use the tool to determine when the sun will peak
over an object (like say Half Dome at Yosemite). I would think it's predominate
use is determining optimal time at a given location (morning light and that
oh so cool, sweet light).

Looks pretty easy to use. Especially if you do so with a GPS. Very nice tool
but the price, $295, seems just a tad steep (just the software, no mobile
device is included) for something you're not likely to use frequently.

I remember reading a quick review here (the site doesn't display on my work computer right now) of a software package (found here) to be installed on palm device that would do the same thing. I did a quick look at it at the time and it seemed to do all that you say this package does. The really cool thing is that the software is freely distributable.

If you read the web page, you'd see that it's a bit more exacting than say
    The Weather Channel :D

Seriously, if all you want is up/down, then anything else is likely to be
    mo-betta.

But if you want an idea of when the sun will rise over...say...the Weather
Channel World Headquarters, then this is for you.

Let's just say I don't need to spend $295 to find out when the sweet light is, nor when the sun is high in the sky. lol3.gif
