We are back from a fantastic trip to Lake Louise & Banff - here are some quick pics from the trip. I didnt have (nor have I ever used) a grad ND filter, so I shot in raw, bracketed exposures etc - in anticipation of someday fiddling with these. Ill need another vacation just to tackle that I think.
Thanks to those who provided tripod/head advice - I couldnt be happier with the choices (Feisol 3401 + RSS BH-40 - VERY easy to hike with).
All but the last were shot with the 17-55 2.8 IS

Good shots.
It was like that when I found it I promise....
Nothing was done to the color, its some sort of effect due to the minerals, and something something....(I need to read those informative signs more carefully)

Great shots! It really makes me want to get up there... I've been as far as Glacier NP.

nice work, Jefy!

I like this one. It's so peaceful looking. Makes me feel like it's the weekend. Don't have to go into work. The sun's setting.
I'm home with my wife and kids, (not that I have any, but I can dream, right)? A nice dinner is being served.
The night air approaches so that we can go out on the porch after dinner and enjoy the evening and gaze at the stars
and talk about anything. No crime to worry about. No bad person/s to come around and start trouble.
It's like a piece of Eden, or a piece of the New Earth. It's a beautiful picture.

Ramblings About Me
-I was just a little depressed about having to be back in 200% humidity here in Houston, and now I'm completely miserable after reading the word-picture you've described, thanks alot! :cry
-Ann, absolutely no canoes were harmed or manipulated in these shots! That particular one was taken around 9:30 pm after a long day of hiking, I dont think I could have moved even one if I wanted to!
Thanks to all for the nice comments, it was my first time doing landscape-type shots. I'd been working the other end of the f-stop spectrum for the last couple years taking pictures of the kids. I learned ALOT from reading here before the trip and I think it paid off!
I am newbie to this website..that even make me more stuned..

Another dissentor re: Peyto lake. All I have for suporting evidence is this photo, Aug. 1, 2002 in the snow:
Peyto Lake, Morraine Lake, Lake Louise etc. are all galcial lakes. They are all green. Peyto is particularly undisturbed, sheltered and gorgeous. google Darwin Wiggitt (sp?) - he has many photos of Peyto Lake.
Jefy - you did a great job with lighting - given the instability of the weather in the mountains, finding sweet light can be a real challenge. But when you do, the results are spectacular.

Ramblings About Me
Peyto Lake (pea-toe) is a glacier fed lake located in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. The lake itself is easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway.
During the summer, significant amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright, turquoise color. Because of its bright color, photos of the lake often appear in illustrated books, and area around the lake is a popular sightseeing spot for tourists in the park.
...and you know if its in a free online anyone-editable encyclopedia it's gotta be true!
I live in Crested Butte and we have Emerald Lake which is almost the exact same color. Great captures!

I love all these shots...but these two are especially jaw dropping IMO. I love the symetrical feel of the one on the lake...and the wideness is just breath taking. Nice job!
