Here is one of my first shots from my new 20D. This is my brothers first little girl, she is so sweet and funny to be around!

I don't mind cluttered backgrounds in family shots, the important thing is just grabbing the expressions and trying to keep up with the little ones! But just a suggestion to try to use a wide open aperture - that will make the backgrounds more blurry and your subject will stand out more.
