Who here knows their automotive paint? I know how to care for it, I'm talking about the specs of it. I know a good paint job when I see one, but I'm not sure how to tell a good paint job when I hear one. How many mils thick should the clear coat be? How many mils thick should the paint be?
Thanks,
Richard

1 - Andy, how do you know that?
2 - Do you know how many mils that works out to?

Sorry, can't say I know the answer to this one. ne_nau.gif

I'll see if I can find any of my old buddies still in the industry who might know. Silly question: I assume you've googled it already?

Yeah, I googled it. I came up with something that mentioned clearcoat is 4.5mils thick, but it was just a generic statement. I would think a $6000 paint job would have more clear on it than a Earl Schibe 99.95 paint job, in addition to better and more labor.
