It has been some time since I've been out shooting and even longer since I've posted...I'm up in Fresno CA doing a rotation here for a month and I must say there are tons of wildlife shooting opportunities. I've been mourning the loss of my big lens, but all these hawks have been forcing me to get over it! Here's one from a 30min session I had before my last shift.

Hope to toss a few more up in the near future and even though I have not been posting I have been admiring all the fine photos posted of late!!

    Spectacular image! thumb.gif

Can you reveal any hints as to how get such a sharp and perfect exposure with a backlight sky?ne_nau.gif My flying bird shots always seem to have less detail than I want.

Thanks for the kind words Tom. For this shot I used +1 stop of exposure compensation to bring out some of the details of the hawk against the backlighting. Just some basic (LAB method) post processing to boot.

    Hope that helps!

Extremely nice composition, the clear blue sky with the hawk right in the middle and the light passing through the feathers is the icing on the cake!

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Jeff! I'm up here for the next 3 weeks and then to USC for 1 month. After that I make the move to Chitown. We need to shoot at least one more time before I take off!

Thanks Ric. I'll have to try that. I've yet to find some printing that I'm real happy about, but I need to get on that. Pics weren't made to sit on my hard drive!

I'm here for a month long rotation in emergency medicine. Very target rich as far as the hawks go...now getting time off to shoot said hawkies is another story. Hope to get together for a shoot when I get back to LA!
