Went up to Crested Butte last month to shoot wildflowers. I had never been up there before, and wow, was it stunning! Anyway, here are a few of my favorite shots:

All were taken with a Digital Rebel XT; shots 1, 2 and 4 were with the Tokina 12-24mm f/4, while shot 3 was with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4.

Colorado is certainly a place of beauty, but even after living here 10 years, I had no idea how incredible some parts of it are! In many ways these photos don't do it justice--you really have to see it to believe it! So start making plans for next August... :D

Cheers,
Jeremy

LMAO!!! That is TOO funny! I just posted that double rainbow - and didn't even notice your post! Wasn't that AMAZING?!?!? It just lasted for SO long! (My photo is taken 3 houses from my house. I love it here!)

I just LOVE the second shot! They are all amazing, but that one just really captures what it's like here....

If you get bored in Denver, come back out for the mushrooms. They are incredible this year with all rain!

Must be great to live up there and be able to get such shots all the time! :D Yes, it's quite possible we were shooting different ends of the same rainbow at the same time. For my shooting buddy and me, it was incredibly serendipitous; we were shooting up by Gothic that day and started heading back to the car when the clouds started rolling in. (We didn't quite make it back in time and got ourselves a little wet.) As we headed back to town, the sky started clearing, and that gorgeous double rainbow came out of nowhere. I'm not sure I've ever seen a rainbow so intense! And we came down to just the right place to take in a panoramic view. My shooting buddy, with his 1Ds and 17-40mm, was able to get the entire rainbow--end to end--in one frame. The 12-24mm on a 1.6x camera is not quite so wide, so I settled for one end. Hopefully that's the only time I'll kick myself for not getting the Canon 10-22mm or the Sigma 10-20mm... umph.gif

I can't wait to get back to the Butte, but there's so much more of Colorado that I need to see too!

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

The second photo has some nice colors. It reminds me a lot of a place on the souther edge of the Sierra Nevada called Short Canyon.

That rainbow shot is outstanding Jeremy! thumb.gif

Have you tried stitching a panoramic on the computer? You can at least try to get those wider-angle shots that you can't compose in-camera.

    Thanks!

I've done panoramic stitching before with good results. I was tempted to do it here, but from my vantage point the end of the rainbow that I shot was the more interesting one, so a panoramic shot may not have been better. Or maybe I'm just saying that to console myself :D
