Printing problems

I have been having some problems when I print my photographs.
I use a canon 20D and do minimal post processing.
I use windows 2K and have a sony SDM-X73.
I have not calibrated my monitor. However, I have set the sony-I93 color profile.
I take my photographs to a local Kodak express shop.

I find that my photographs comer out very over-exposed.
Light colours (like pink) come out white and mush detail is lost.

Here is a sample picture

In the print I have the following problems:
1. Details in the hat are lost.
2. All colors are washed out. (The pink blanket around the face is white etc.)

I have checked the histogram and are sure this image is not over-exposed.

Now for my questions:
1. Does my photograph look okay to you?
2. Does any-one have experience with Kodak express?

I am guessing that the processing has applied some auto-correction that is messing up my prints.
I plan to go back to the shop and have a talk to them.
I just thought I would check to make sure there is not an obvious problem that I am missing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Brian

P.S. I know SmugMug does good prints. However, I am in Hong Kong so local prints are a much better deal.

I would try a different printing service, you shouldnt lose detail in the hat or color in the pink. I think most decent home photo printers would print it fine, altho I would saturate the pinks a bit before I printed, masking out the childs face to prevent saturating it too in the process. Altho making the pink a lil more vibrant is just my opinion. Maybe ask around around and see who likes who for printing services in your area.
    Best regards,

    Thanks.
    Douglas,

    Thanks for your reply.
You have confirmed what I was thinking.
