Cirque du Soleil

Had a once in a lifetime chance to photograph Cirque du Soleil at a private performance this weekend. I WISH I'd known in advance so I could've prepared a little more (a wider prime would've helped). Fortunately I never leave home without my 50/1.4 and since there was no flash photography allowed it was crucial. I was jammed up front below the stage and couldn't stand or I'd block onlookers which is why a 30mm prime would've been better suited. Anyways, enjoy! All taken with a D200...first is my favorite for some reason...

Some really fine shooting / cropping, especially for short notice. Well done.

Thanks...no doubt a real opportunity since it's typically no cams allowed. I wish I'd had a 24mm/1.4. That would've been the perfect frame for being that close. Also wish I could've stood up but the $5k/plate folks behind me wouldn't have appreciated it... eek7.gif

No doubt...just glad I had the 50/1.4. It just doesn't pay to leave home with the slr and without a good prime!

I'm a huge fan of theatrical and concert photography. These are absolutely wonderful, and shot with one of my favorite lenses too! Great job!

Thanks everyone! It was so much fun to shoot those guys and every time they saw the camera they would ham it up...true performers. Coupled with all the color and great lighting and it was just amazing.

The 50/1.4 is really a great lens...a bargain for how well it performs. It's just razor sharp at F2!

I took a final pass at all my pix...found a few more. The colors are so intense...you just can't beat ambient lighting. I need a job as a traveling Cirque photographer! Hope you enjoy!

Thanks...that first one is iso Hi-1 (iso3200 if I recall)...there's a lot of noise but I think it's beautiful noise.

The others range from iso400 to iso1000 because some acts had more ambient light than others. It was pitch black in the arena otherwise...
