Email uploading problem - no captions!

Sending a note to Support too, but wanted to post here as well:

Setting up another SM site, this one for the local camera club. The users need to be able to digitally submit photos for competition, so I was going to have them email the photos to the SM site (where we're going to host the galleries anyway).

The pics get emailed and posted fine. Problem is, the "caption", as entered into the body of the message, is not being put in as the caption of the photo. It still says "Add a caption" for each photo.

I tried sending my pics from my personal web site using Outlook/SMTP, and then from my Gmail account in case it was an Outlook issue, same results. Can someone else test and let me know? Thanks!!

Michael

    Michael,
Same luck here. I tried using Outlook mail via my ISP and my yahoo account. No caption. It did pick up the file name and placed it in the keyword section.
I'm sure someone will pop in with a fix.

Hmmm... try again, I was able to email this pic and the caption came in just fine. http://williams.smugmug.com/gallery/1832834/1/91725344/Large (it's NOT my photograph and I'll delete it shortly).

Hi Andy - thanks for the response.

I tried another photo upload and it did not work. The photo appeared, but no caption. :(

    Any other tips? Thanks,
    Michael

Here is a question for both Andy and Michael:

In what kind of format are you sending your email? Plain text? RTF? HTML?
I think Andy probably used plain text, correct?

I tried sending 2 emails with a photo. One was in HTML format, the other one plain text. They both upload fine, but the plain text one was the only one which showed the caption.... (i think i'm onto something here....)

I'll try again later when I'm home!!!

If this is the solution, SM should change the Help page to include that tidbit...

    Thanks!

OK, it's confirmed, if I send the email in Plain Text mode, it works perfectly! If I use HTML mode, the caption doesn't transfer.

I'd recommend some kind of change in the notes on how to do this...?

    Thanks all!clap.gif

So, on the subject of uploading photos, is there a way of checking the photos before they are displayed ?
Similar to blog comments having to be approved etc.

I assume the normal size limits apply.

    Thanks
