It is 8 inches in diameter

I have seen ringlights built out of flouresent like tubes about 3 feet long - 3 of them in a triangle, with the lens of the camera shooting through the center of the triangle.

The larger distance from the light source to the lens axis must influence the appearance of the light somewhat.
