Can anyone tell me if this works as a remote control as well as a remote timer? I want to buy it for its timing features but have not been able to find out if it also acts as a remote push button. I would think that it would but I would hate to pay the $100+ for it and it not have the one feature I want right now.

Search ebay for ADIDT. Price is around $15.
I'm pretty happy with it. It can only do triggering - regular or bulb (no timing or fancy reading), but for the price...:):

Yep my vote for a $10 wonder tool (ADIDT) as well. Will allow a Bulb as well.

The TC80N3 works like a normal Cable release with the additional timing
functions. You can press the button to release the shutter. There is a
dedicated start/stop button to start and stop the timer. The higher
investment is defenitly worth it if you can use the timing featuers in
the field. Build quality is absolutely great. The only thing I miss in the
TC80N3 is a support for mirror lockup. One can't set the timer to two
consecutive releases every 5 minutes for example. If you set the timer
to release every 5 minutes and use mirror lockup the mirror would flip
up and stay that way for 5 minutes and the the picture would be taken
by the 2nd release. Quite annoying because mirror lockup drains batteries.
This really is my only complaint other than that I can highly recommend the TC80N3.

Remote control in what sense? This one allows you to trigger the shutter
as required with the button or to set a timer to allow timed trigger (ie; once
    every 10 min).

It doesn't allow you the same flexibility as say a Pocket Wizard (for remote
    camera operation) though.
