I don't know about focus...but sure would have been nice if you composed so the bird wasn't smack dab in the middle.. I think a bit of cropping and you'd have a nice shot.

Yeah...I always use the center focus point when using "one shot", then focus/recompose. Then I switch to "AI Servo" for birds in flight, and don't reset the focus point. :whip My bad.
Usually the birds are so far away...I can just crop for composition. (a bad habit)
I don't have a means to crop while on vacation using the laptop.
Its a really fine shot. I love the close-ups but its harder to get a good environmental shot. I agree with jeff about the comp though.
