Can anybody recommend a biography/book, that gives a good insight in to the work of a war photographer or the field. I fancy reading up on it. Thanks.

    Lee Miller
Lee Miller is my favorite war photographer. She was one of the first photographers into the death camps after the US invasion of Germany in WWII. She was an amazing combat and doco photographer, as well as a groundbreaking woman - going places the boys wouldn't touch. I know there's a book about her, can't remember the name, but I'm sure you can find it on Amazon. Good luck.
Shoot, or shoot not. There is no try.

    I can't recommend you a book or a biography, but I can
highly recommend you the documentary "War Photographer"
It is an amazing documentary about "the" James Nachtwey,
(http://www.jamesnachtwey.com/) how he pursues his work
and his philosophy about being a war photographer.

I watch the movie every once in a while. Really, it is that good!

Look for Robert Capa, the guy who popularized the phrase "If your photo is not good enough is because you're not close enough" (or something like it).
