New Mexico has been pounded by heavy monsoons this year. Here is a shot from this past weekend at McAllister Lake.

    Have you used HDR?
    Great shot!

I like the dramatic reflection on the lake, and the way its composition emphasizes it. Everything's in sharp focus. Nice alow around the cloud as well. Is this image generated from multiple exposures, or is it from a single snap? I'm really into HDR (high dynamic range) these days. HDR gives good effects, but sometimes it's really hard to align the source photos and creating a sharp image. (See my post "Trip around Vancouver" for some examples...) Can you give me some pointers on how to make HDRs well?

Very nice capture. Doesn't it feel great to see a sky with those kind of colors and then be able to capture it. Very well done.

Hi Jiang and thank you for the great comment. Yes, this is a HDR merge image. I used 3 bracketed shots and created 7 exposures out of them. There are lots of ways to do an HDR, but I like to manually enter EV in .5 increments, even if the exposures are 1 or 2 ev apart. HDR Merge does not usually work well with fast moving subjects or even slow subjects if the shutter speed is to slow. If it's windy and you have trees unless you want a blurry effect forget about HDR. If you have waves of water forget about HDR. Well, not totally forget because you can still manually create 3 or more different exposures from one shot which will help to get more Dynamic Range.
