This is how I do it, nothing much, really. I have an action that does this:
    1. increase the canvas a bit and put a white layer behind the background, creating a small white edge around the image
    2. increase the canvas size again and put a black layer on the bottom
    3. add text with name :D
    This is the result:
    36543922.jpg
    hope this helps!
*In my mind it IS real*

    Gus -
I have updated my thread on drop shadow with PS. Once you have the drop shadow it is just a matter of using the text tool to add your logo or copywright.

You would create another layer for your text. So it floats above picture and border. If you have to change your text, it is easier if it is on a separate layer. You can make your layers transparent (as it should be if you ask me) when you open a new document and choose transparent for the settings.
Layers are like plastic sheets on top of each other. You can toggle them to the bottom or the top of the pile. Since they are all transparent, you can see through all of them and really see what is on the thing.
If you work on a laptop, it might be easier to add a keyboard via the usb port. That works easier then the tiny laptop buttons. :D

Humungus, I can't do it either. I can do it up to the "personal" signature. I just type it in in a type I like.

But the sig thing, it just undoes me, as do other simple things. I have Elements 2, PS 7 and PS CS (which I use mostly, I use Pathfinder's instructions, probably his first, unimproved, version). Then I click on T, pick a type I like, click where I want it on the white border, try it out, if the size doesn't work, I backspace and try another size. When I get the size right, I type the title, whatever, and my signature. By putting the cursor at the end of the line, I can move the type up and down. (Don't know if that works in all versions)

However, I can't do my own signature, and that might be a good thing, don't have a good one.
I use something called English versace 3 (for the type) or something like that. I don't know what others use, mine looks a bit feminine to me. I do not know how to set it so it works automatically. Basically, I am not consciously using layers at all. However, in CS, it somehow gets into layers, and I do have to flatten it when I am through.

That probably doesn't help, there are things to buy to make your signature, as I said, I am probably better off without them.

To all, I don't need to know more, don't need to understand it, there is nothing I can understand about layers at this point. I just need to know how to do it.
After all is said and done, it is the sweet tea.

Ginger - you can't do a signature without some means of digitizing your signature.
Lynn would use her Wacom tablet - a graphic tablet that will capture a digital signature - like when you sign some sales receipts in stores with a digital window - or for UPS sometimes. Another alternative would be to sign with a Flair Pen or hi-lighter or magic marker on a nice white surface and photgraph the signature with your digtal camera.

NOW you have a digital image of your signature - You can open the image of your picture and the image of your signature in PS, and you can select the signature with a nice marquee tool rectangle and then type Ctrl-C to copy it to the clip board and type ctrl-V to paste it into your new image where ever you desire it. It will be on a different layer so you can make bigger, smaller, lighter, darker, whatever your heart desires before you flatten the image.
Just sing along, follow the bouncing ball - just like I described - I think you can just DO IT!! thumb.gif

I find that using my "GS" tends to clean a lot of the crap out of my mind (whats left of it} and things seem easier on return

Im only inspired by something i cant do & thats photography at the moment. If i could do it like andy i would just drop it like a hot brick instantly & move on...ive done that all my life. Once i work something out, i lose interest immediately.

The bike is always in the shed & we get 300 sunny days a year with great local roads...just no challenge there for me like photography has.

I think thats an odd thing but its true.

I understand completely, mate. In fact, I've got some of that right now.

I just shot 25 frames of a hanukkah still life. And trashed every single one of them. I suck. But I love it. Tomorrow is another day, with another composition, new lighting, different attitude, and an opportunity to try out new techniques.
