Man I'm perplexed! :scratch

All we are supposed to have around here are GBH's then I found this guy tonite!
He has black legs which you can't see here.

According to my Peterson Guide this is a Great Egret but......
They are only supposed to be down along Rhode island at the furtherest this way.
I'm over 100 miles inland (NY)and according to the guide map they aren't supposed to be anywhere near here! :dunno

HELP!!!

Your guide is correct it is a great egret and they do get up to NY. I saw a number of them at the wildlife refuge in Brooklyn during my NYC days.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

The first shot is stronger because you have the whole reflection in it. Both shots are a tad overexposed. You were shooting in aperture priority mode but made no exposure adjustments. The camera will meter grass on a sunny day at about 128 on the histogram and anything white will be blown out. I would have made a negative expsoure adjustment about 2/3rds of a stop on those shots.

That's what I get for shooting with RAW.
I'm so familiar with how to PP JPGs and know lil about RAW.
Maybe I'll stick with what I'm familiar with and play with RAW on less important pics till I know more about it. ne_nau.gif

There's no difference when you take a shot in RAW or jpeg. Your settings should be just about the same. RAW gives you more latitude to correct some things in your post work but it should have no impact on how you take the shot.

You should be using the same exposure on the shot irregardless of which mode you are shooting in. Whenever I'm shooting white birds I have to check my histogram and "blinkies" to be sure that I have the exposure correct.

Check out some of the resources listed in "Tips and resources sticky". Lots of good info there.
