Ok, I took this pic of my son today when we were at the beach. Mother nature wasn't helping much with the light, but was shooting for the fun of it anyway.

Well I got this pic of my son and I'm wondering if I should add some catch light to his eyes or something because they are so dark. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

IMO a catch light would scream FAKE!

But, I think you could make major mileage if you did some gentle, selective, lightening of the eyes to remove some of the shadow. Not hard to do, a levels layer with a edit mask, then adjust the opacity of the layer to taste. Doing it this way allows you to way over-do the adjustment and then bring it back in line with the opacity. Of course, there are probably other and better ways of getting this job done. If so, I hope someone jumps in and says something.

I am really struggling here. Ahhh I am not pleased with my results when I am converting it to bw myself. Normally I don't have any issues, i don't know what my deal is. Though I am not on my normal monitor and I think the color and picture quality sucks on this monitor.

Anyway, I added what I am coming up with, but i don't like how soft it is and I am not happy with it this light. But it's what I've got thus far. Your opinions are much needed. lol

Thanx for all the advice, greatly appreciate it.

Aside from the border and the eyes, the first is a better B&W conversion - much better tonality. The eyes in the second one, while better, are now a little over done. Take the first example, tone down the eyes about 1/2 stop to show a little brow-ridge shadow and I think you will have it nailed. Just MHO.
