What did I do wrong here?! I was trying to bracket some shots for my HDR program.. My bracket mode dissapeared too... They came out like crap! I would have been better off using a general landscape/ AF setting.... :wxwax

It's so grainy.. Loo at the grass... I tried to focus on the top of the mountains... I can post a larger pic, if it helps..In fullscreen size, it looks like crap... Was shot in ISO 200. THat's all I can remember what I had it set to.

Check your EXIF, it's all there (this is one of the advantages of digital):

    Camera Make: Panasonic
    Camera Model: DMC-FZ20
    Image Date: 2006:09:14 15:20:20
    Flash Used: No
    Focal Length: 14.8mm (35mm equivalent: 89mm)
    Exposure Time: 0.0040 s (1/250)
    Aperture: f/5.2
    ISO equiv: 200
    White Balance: Manual
    Light Source: Fine Weather
    Metering Mode: Center Weight
    Exposure: shutter priority (semi-auto)

IMHO for that kind of shot, the lens is way too open; stop down to at least f8-f11. I think the sky came out fine with the settings, so shooting a second shot metered to get the ground would have worked...or just dropping it to black to focus on the sky & distant mountains.

I'm running Firefox with the FXiF extension. So, I right click the images & select the Properties menu item; if there's EXIF in the image it's displayed. :D

Just part of why FF kicks IE's butt.thumb.gif

Claudermilk can you point me to the Fxif extension for FireFox. I just spent the last half-hour searching the Firefox site for it an I have come up empty. TIA.

    Chris,
I don't understand what happened with your bracketed shots? headscratch.gif How much did you bracket? FWIW and IMHO, that's the right approach to shots like this one. There's just too much dynamic range for most digitals, including most Dslrs, to capture in one image. So using HDR, or blending is the easiest way to get good results.

The noise will be most evident in under exposed areas within the frame. That's why your grass is so noisey. By using HDR or blending, you would have gotten to use a better exposed (hence, less noisey) version of the foreground.

If your camera gives you problems in bracketing mode, just do it manually. As in, change speeds by hand. Do not change aperture or ISO and use a tripod, and remote release, if at all possible.

I tried loading each in my HDR program and it made thee whole immage worse.

I braketed 3 shots. -Manually changed exposure for each. I went out to shoots some shots in broad daylite yesterday, and my braket mode was there. Why does it do that. That was one of the better shots. My f value should have been up around7.2 or 8.0 tho. Not quite 5.2.

oh, and as far as FF, I have the immage properties, just not the EXiF...What's that stand for anyway. -Extension Immage FIle?

I'll try to load the HDR shot... I could have doen a lot of adjusting, but i was gettign frusterated, so I didn't bother... Back when it loads.

    http://ted.mielczarek.org/code/mozilla/fxif/ <--extension author's site. IIRC that's where I grabbed it.

For lots of information on EXIF: www.exif.org Basically it's the data on how the shot was taken that all digital cameras embed in their image files. As you see it can be quite useful.

Bayer, I kinda get the feeling you don't really know your camera very well. I may be wrong, but a thorough reading of the manual would help you, if in fact you're having trouble finding the bracket setting.
