A while ago, I shot a regatta in Foster City, CA.

I saw this guy just across the lagoon....

He must have lived in the area. Stopped, shot a few and wandered
back. Must be a pro too...he chimps.

Then I turned around and took this....

I think the lens was a 600mm. I have thought on and off
about a used 500mm...

Try here. It's a short feature on chimping. You can learn from the pros!

Ive read several ideas from whence it derived. One was that it was originaly called APEing back in the days when only AP photogs could afford digitals & they would all look at others shots in the LCD.

Me ? i recon its when you take a shot...either look at it yourself or show someone & make a small 'grunt' at the shot of either approval or disapproval.

That guy is good. Chimping with sunglasses takes loads of talent rolleyes1.gif

I've always wanted to chimp :cry Almost as much as I want one of those LARGE, fast, L tele's. 400mm, 500mm, or 600mm, makes no difference. Give me one of those (and a donkey to tote it :lol ) and I'll be good ta go.

Does showing others the image in the LCD, even though you can't see it yourself, count as chimping? If so, there's hope for me rolleyes1.gif

Kind of funny taking stealth, papparrazzi shots of a fellow with a lens like that. Seems kind of backwards rolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gif

Now if I could get someone to throw it up on SportsShooter (maczippy...?)...maybe I
could find out who it was :D

Zippy, if you do it, please crop and enlarge it a bit so it looks more like a stealthy
    shot :D

'gus, I've heard that story as well. Sounds plausible. And Harry? It's chimping if
you show the image to anyone :D In this example; the glasses are meant to throw
one off the track. "Why it's clear he couldn't really be chimping...I mean look at
those glasses--they're as dark as night".
