How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Looks interesting to me. When comparing the Canon 70-200L at $1600 to this lens at $1000....$600 less for 200mm more!

    Still debating with myself. headscratch.gif

    Hey Ric,
If you're serious about heavy artillery, give the Bigma a looksee. It doesn't have OS/IS, but it does get you 30mm's more on the wide end (and 1/3 stop of speed) and 100mm's more at the tele end mwink.gif It only weighs about 5-6 ozs more than the 80-400mm and the price is similar. They will both get you decent speeds (as in handholdable) with good light :-) Start doing your curls now :lift

So whatcha planning on using this long zoom for? Birding, wildlife, daytime sports?

Anyhow, I am very happy with the Bigma and I am starting to get the shots I want, just about everytime, while handholding :-) It works well at both ends of the zoom and is really decent in contrast/color/sharpness areas. It loses a bit of sharpness over about 425mm's, but so do most long zooms. I'm sure it'll be the same with the 80-400mm.

If you're interested here are some Bigma shots, at a variety of focal lengths.

...I'll give the Bigma a look.

Recently, I came across a piece of forest preserve (not far from my home) that no one is interested in except the deer, the birds and me!

My Canon 75-300 IS is too slow on AF to catch the flighty little birds that frequent this area. (if I ever get a photo of one, I'll tell you what they are!)

Plus the deer are abundant. I just have to figure out thier routine on where they bed down, eat...etc.
