How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

This one too, Yuri. I love this style of photography. I once took a shot of my mom that captured her sadness, loneliness and distance. My family doesn't like to look at it. This shot is far superior. Great stuff.

Would you mind if I linked the actual photos here, so that folks can see them in these posts? Or might that strain your server too much?

I love learning about new places. Russia is vast, and we know so little about it here in the United States. I've cut-and-pasted a few facts about Yuri's city.

    Voronezh, Russia
    • Location: Located in West Central Russia, in the Chornzem, or Black Earth region, Voronezh is 250 miles south of Moscow and easily accessible by overnight train. The Voronezh River runs through the city to join the Don River 25 miles downstream Voronezh and

    • Sister City Affiliation: Charlotte signed a Sister City declaration in June 1991. At that time the population of Voronezh was 900,000.

    • Economy: The food industry in Voronezh has profited from its location in the Black Earth region, producing meat, dairy products, milled grain, and pasta. Voronezh's industries produce much of Russia's farm machinery, presses, lathes, engines, television sets, radios, tires and aluminum construction materials. The Illytian Aircraft Factory, an important Russian aerospace concern, is located in Voronezh and employs over 30,000 workers.

    • Education: Voronezh is a city proud of its educational tradition. it is home to dozens of research institutions and nine higher education facilities for industry, agriculture, arts and science, including the third largest university in Russia.

    • Area History: Voronezh dates from 1585, when a multi-towered fortress was built on a high bank of the Voronezh River to protect the region from invading nomadic tribes. The region received a major boost when Peter the Great established a large shipbuilding yard on the river to produce galleons and galleys for the Russian Navy.

    • Over the centuries Voronezh has seen its share of history's triumphs and tragedies, as its citizens fought back invasions by Napoleon in 1812 and Hitler in 1943.
