I'm checking out flatbed scanners, and I'm looking in the 75-100 dollar range. Any ideas? I'm leaning towards Canon, just because that is what my printer is, but I'm open to otehr ideas! I'm looking for something to use for archiving text documents, as well as doing 3x5 and 4x6 photos, with maybe the occasional negative or slide scans. Any suggestions in this price range would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a canoscan 4200. I'm sure there's a later version, I got it about a year ago. it's a great scanner, and quite cheap. canon has the top of the market in most digital stuff, so make sure to to consider them for the scanner too! check cnet.com or consumer reports and see if they have reviews on scanners - everything I buy I have to check review after review first.

    good luck!

After a lot of checking around I think I'm settling on the Epson Perfection 3490.

    http://pcworld.com/article/id,122862-page,1/article.html

It's gotten good reviews in pretty much every category, and it can be had for around 90 bucks new, or 65 refurbished directly from Epson.

Has anyone else ever tried out refurbished goods from Epson? Is it something to steer away from, or worth the savings of 30 dollars?
