This was my first attempt at cycling, taken at Thornbridge Hall (Notts+Derby league)
I was using 10D with 50mm 1.8 and 1D with 200mm 2.8 all the slow shutter pans were with 10D

It was hard in the wood one minute the light was on them next it had gone

I see what you mean: the sky was cloudy and the sun was playing games: sometimes it appeared sometimes it was hidden.
Another difficulty to add when you shoot.
