Good evening,
Once again I'll ask:when storing CD-R's- do I lay them flat or stand them up on end? I can't remember which...my memory is going ....going....:dunno
Thanks a bunch!

CDs are made of much more stable plastics (polycarbonate) and are relatively immune to storage orientation. I actually store my backup CDs/DVDs on an old bulk spool, so they are stacked flat, just like bulk blank CD-Rs are stored and shipped.

Plastic cd cases also offer this same protection, as they keep the cd slightly raised above the plastic case.
be very careful if you store your cds in booklet/cases as they have no protection, and can be scratched when you insert or pull out the cd.
another note on cds, the ones with just the silver top aren't as good as the ones with the plastic coated top. the silver top is actually what you're burning when you burn the cd. if the top of the cd gets scratched, or flakes at all, you're screwed far more than if scratch the bottom of the disc.
hope that info is helpful.

The reason for 'standing it up' is to keep the rubbing force on each cd/dvd down to a minimum. When you lay a book flat the dvd's on bottom have a large force pushing down and if the book is shifted any this might cause micro scratches, ie disk rot...
But cd/dvd's are very tough like somebody above said. So in my world it doesn't matter if i lay the book flat or sideways...
