Hi,
I can tell you're frustrated! You're having difficulty moving photos from one gallery to another? It seems to be working fine for me.
What's the problem?
-Anne
yes I'm frustrated. I'm almost 24 hours into moving about 800 photos from one gallery to another. Well I"m gonna keep trying
Lemme see if I can explain what happened!
Delema: I have around 800 photos in gallery1. I want to make this gallery no longer available but I don't want to delete it so the solution is to make gallery2 and move all the photos from gallery1 to gallery2. Set gallery2 to not "public" and delete gallery1. Simple enough.
Work Log:
1. Created gallery2.
2. From gallery1 selected "move photos".
3. The move photos screen appears and I select "all photos" and choose gallery2 in the drop down and click "move".
4. The browser appears to be communicating with SmugMug. Things are starting to happen.
5. After about 10 minutes of something happening I give up and close the browser. I open another browser and go to gallery2. There are a few photos in there from gallery1.
6. Wait a few minutes and refresh. There are a few more photos in there so the large queue of 800 (about) photos appear to be in a queue somewhere and are processing. I'm happy with that and move on.
7. About 2 hours later I look at gallery2 hoping to see all the photos. There are several more but still less than 100.
8. I wait and refresh, again more photos appear so I know it's still running.
9. some time goes by and I check again. There are 359 photos in gallery2. I wait - refresh - wait -refresh ... nothing. I'm comfident 359 photos is all I'm going to get.
10. No problem, I got to gallery1, choose "move photos", choose "select all photos", try to choose gallery2 in the list of galleries and IT'S NOT THERE. It's no where in the list!
11. scratching my head I close the browser, start fresh and repeat step 10. Gallery2 is still not there. I do this several times, clear my cache, change to firefox and the SAME THING. Gallery2 exist! I can go to the gallery and see 359 photos in it. Just when I try to move photos it's not in the list of galleries to choose from.
12. Created gallery3. Go back to gallery1. There are the remaining photos 400+. I select all, Choose gallery3, and click "move".
13. HOURS go by and a couple of photos make it. Game over!
14. Get home, now no longer on the T3 working of DSL. I now have my original gallery1, gallery2 with 359 photo and gallery3 with only a few photos (sorry didnt remember the count).
15. I decide to move the 359 photos from gallery2 to gallery3 because I can no longer see gallery2 in the list of available galleries. I repeat the move steps and after about an hour I get all the photos from gallery2 to gallery3 and finally delete gallery2.
16. Now I have gallery3 with half of the photos from gallery1 and the remainder still in gallery1. Now I decide to move the remaining photos from gallery1 to gallery3 again.
17. Go through the move steps and when I go to choose gallery3 from the list of available galleries, POOF it's GONE :bash. Now I can't select gallery3 either. WTF...
18. Loose cool, say many profanity words. Leave nasty-gram on DigitalGrin to see if I can make Andy loose it like Bill Clinton. (didn't work)
19. I try many times to now move the remaining photos from gallery1 to gallery3 with no use until I decide to walk away from it and go to bed.
20. I wake up at 1:30 am and just can't stand it any longer I go back to the computer and try this moving photos from gallery1 to gallery3 AGAIN.
21. Same thing. I cannot get gallery3 to show up in the list of available galleries.
22. I noticed something very strange. When I was in gallery1 and chose "move photos" the move photos screen would appear but the count of images was WRONG. There are 400+ images in gallery1 but it was showing me the count of images from gallery3. This silly thing thinks I'm in gallery3 which makes sense as to why gallery3 is not in the list of available galleries.
23. To be 10000% sure I back all the way out, open up galler1, go to move photos. The screen appears again with the wrong count and thinks I'm in gallery3.
NOW HOW I GOT AROUND IT!
24. Went back to gallery1. Knowing that if I select "move photos" it was going to give me the wrong count and be confused I decide to go to the LAST PAGE, LAST PHOTO in gallery1 and ensure that I had the correct count in gallery1. I selected the LAST PHOTO and decided to NOW try to "move photos". TWAAAALAAAA! The count was correct and gallery3 is now in the list of available galleries. I selected all the photos, chose gallery3, clicked "move" and about 10 minutes later all the rest of the photos from gallery1 are now in gallery3.
All the heartache was finally over. I'm a software developer (by day) and build web applications, but still puzzled over this one. Very odd but at least 18 hours later I have point A moved to point B.
Andy, Smugmug, I hope this list of events help sheds some light to help find the problem. I know what it's like to for my users to say "it's broke" and I don't remember what screen I was on or what I was doing at the time but I want you to fix it. OL..... so hope that helps. I'm not the best at explaining either but that's it in a nutshell. You have my mailing address so it won't hurt my feelings to see a 5D show up to make me feel better
It's now 2:30am and I think I'll go play around and see what else I can break!
Nite everyone!
Scott
Why not just make the gallery private and turn off external links ??
Dna
But how about a password?
www.ivarborst.nl & smugmug
I think in another thread he suggested offering photos for 30ish days, then "deleting" them to encourage early sales and wanted to make them "disappear" so as not to dangle the locked gallery in their faces in a nannynannybooboo fashion.
