Coyote returns
We were at the beach and saw the "cat lady" come by, walk down the path, and leave food for the cats. I don't know if she realizes she's also feeding the skunks, squirrels and -- this coyote. I posted a photo last week, but never thought I'd see the coyote again. I had lots of company this time and there were 4 or 5 of us standing at a safe distance. I took probably around 50 photos, but in some I moved, in some the coyote moved. In my gallery are some full frames and some close ups (crops) of the coyote. I only have one photo where the skunk is visible.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
We have coyotes here in northern Illinois too. Actually we have lots of them. People (myself included) seem to think they are mostly out west...not so.
We feed ours better, though.

To find out what they eat. I read there are coyotes who live in the city -- and there are some living in Washington, DC!
The man who was worried about the cats was right to worry coyote will eat cats, squirrels, small dogs, insects, rodents and fruit. The local cats don't seem to be missing and while wary, did not seem afraid.
My hubby was working in the garage overnight on a project that had to be finished and around 4 a.m. he saw a very thin coyote walk down our street. Our town has a lot of protected areas left wild so I guess they live in the canyons and hills. We occasionally will see a deer, but at an acquaintance's house they are seen all the time.
I was wondering why I hadn't seen the squirrels hanging out....

It was difficult to pick out which photo to feature in this thread. I didn't want to bore people with coyote photos

Pretty easy when you are about 25 feet away.... just wish the light were a little better. I was wondering if I could bring a big white sheet and set it up as a reflector...:D

that the coyotes have moved into areas where the wolves lived (now that so many wolves have been killed off). I was surprised that Washington, D.C. had coyotes living there though.

I need a longer lens! <sigh> but it's something being able to watch these three eating the same food. I bet anything the woman who feeds the cats doesn't realize what else she's feeding.

no birds sang there except those that sang best.

I wish the light could be better, but the seawall is above the path at this point and blocks the setting sun.
I was thinking of bringing my big flash next time I go.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.

It's really neat watching the coyote -- and people's expressions when they realize what they are seeing.

He actually is very pretty, beautiful tail, pretty gold eyes, and those ears!
