Since I assume you are uploading across many different galleries, I would think you'd want an uploader that can upload to many different galleries all in one unattended session. I use Star*Explorer for doing that kind of thing and it's been very reliable for me. In it's UI, I just drag/drop the images I want to upload to the right destination galleries, tell it to start the upload and walk away.

It isn't free, but $14.99 for the standard version will hardly break the bank and could save you a lot of time.

    Hi Early Riser. Welcome!

My thought is to start early and to use the Univeral Upload tool. You might want to look into Star Explorer too (though this is not free).

Send To Smug Mug is free and quite nice. It can only upload one directory/album at a time but you can run multiple instances at the same time.

As a standard user I didn't find that Star*Explorer added much value for me. Main thing I was looking for is managing album properties. It seems it's more geared for photo sales and statistics.

Multiple galleries is the key for me

The single reason that Star*Explorer rocks for me is that I can set up uploads to multiple galleries at once. I do event photography and often am uploading into 10-20 galleries. 20 instances of Send To SmugMug all fighting for the DSL bandwidth wouldn't work for me. In Star*Explorer, I just drag/drop all the images into all the different galleries and tell it to go. It does all of them at once in one unattended session. For the pros, it also does a lot with sales statistics, but I don't use that much.

If one doesn't need to upload to multiple galleries, then Send To Smugmug is probably all you need.
