how many of them are real is an ongoing debate among the moderators. You have to admit, its fairly quiet around here for 10,000 people...

From "Shooters" I see there have been roughly 2000 visitors over the last month, so that's some measure. Of course, there were a lot of zero posts in that list. It seems like you could get a better feel, though, if vBulletin tracked "date of last post" by member. Or, maybe that's a stat available to mods only.
Either way, I think this site has a ton of lurkers, both member and non-member. I was one for several months before my first post. And, by some measures (posts since membership), it could be argued I still am.:D
My point? I hope everyone sees the incredible value of this forum to the droves of folks who've not come out of the Dgrin closet. It can take a lot of time for a noobie to get up the nerve to post with all this experience around. Fortunately, this site does a better job than any other of making them feel welcome when they do.
I found dgrin when I joined smugmug and have dove right in. I bought my first DSLR a couple weeks before I joined here and have honestly learned at least 50% of what I know from here. The rest was from trial and error, reading books, and meeting other photographers through dgrin. I started with the questions of "Which lens to use" and I posted what I thought at the time were fantastic shots but now I know better. My point is that I have always been encouraged here and because of that I think the quality of my shots have gone up exponentially. There are a lot of lurkers around here and I would bet that 75% of the posts are from less than 20% of the members. The top 10 posters make up 23% of the posts and Andy makes up 6% of all the posts by himself. Imagine how busy this board would be if all 10,000+ members posted even once a month.
