I've had custom framing from local shops done in the past, but I'm interested to hear what others do.

There are many sites that carry frames, I have used framesbymail.com and have been very happy with them. www.dickblick.com also has a nice selection. I also get frames at Hobby Lobby when they are on sale. The trick is that you need to be able to cut your own mats to keep costs down. The 12X18 size you mentioned works well in a 18X24 frame with a 3" wide mat.

michaels has decent premade frames, and AC Moore cuts mat now while you wait... I got a 24x36" mat cut for $5.35 including the mat last week.

for the 8x12... try an 11x14" frame with 1.125"x1.625" worth of mat around the edges...

I've used Light Impressions once. It wasn't cheap, but I liked the options available for framing and protecting a specific piece of artwork. They're at: http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.com

I have also used Light Impressions, reasonable prices, good products, quick shipping but most of all if you are selling or showing prints, you can have consistancy between frames, mats etc. I've used Michaels and Aaron Bros and they are good, but you have to take what they have in stock.
    Have a great day!

Here is a question... If I have an 8"x10" photo I want to frame with a 1"x1" mat, does that mean I need a 10"x12" frame? ne_nau.gif

I want to frame some photos I took for my mother...

exactly.... that would need to be a custom made frame at that size. Arts and craft stores sell kits you can use to make your own odd size frames, then get a piece of glass and matt cut to size. Its actually not that expensive...

I went to all the shops in my area and struck up a great relationship and now friendship with a frame shop owner.

Not all framing businesses will be the same, but I would suggest approaching them by stating you would like to frame with what they have in stock. Many times framers will have surplus materials from other jobs just sitting around taking up space and affecting their bottom line. You can get a very nice price by using these excess materials.

I was having the same problem, I have a lot (like 20+) 8x10's framed on a wall in my office and like to use the simple and cheap MCS frames, keeps the attention on the pictures.

I could have sworn I saw some MCS 8x12's locally but recently had several 8x12's printed that just couldn't be cropped to 8x10, I tried all the local stores, Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, etc. and they looked at me like I was on crack asking for an 8x12 frame, but I knew I had seen an MCS one before. None of them could order them either (my theory is they didn't want to go through the trouble - I guess they didn't know I'd probably buy a case).

    Anyway, just found them at
