Hey Dgrinners,
I’ve been enjoying photography for a couple of years now, but with my only camera – a Canon PowerShot A510. I loved this camera when we got it and still appreciate its quality. However, I want a better camera. I’ve decided I’d like the Canon 30D, but will have to wait for the funds to become available.
My question is; how should I improve myself while only using a compact camera. I want to do more technical shots but am limited because of the camera. I’m wondering if I should shoot my heart out, read books, check out other’s pictures, or what.
Advice anyone??
Cheers,
Garfonzo

just work to take the picture you see in your mind.
that's what I've learned....am learning...still learning.
uh, short answer to your question is "yes"
my 2 cents
The best teacher is experience so I would say shoot your heart out. When you review your shots pay attention to the setting you used on the shot. See what worked and what didn't work.
Then I would also do some reading especially on composition.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
Yeah, experience is good... but having a SLR really helps get that experience. Most Point and shoots are clunky and slow. Good for "AUTO" shooting. They shouldn't even have those auto style modes on EOS camera's. I dont think I've ever taken my bodies out of the P, Tv, Av, M modes...
