This guy is literally right outside my door. It had a beautiful orb shaped web and is one of the strangest spiders I have ever seen.

I took these with my new 18-200 VR Nikkor, hand held at 1/80 sec.
Cropped and sharpened a tad.

Hi Thomas, I believe this spider is called an ORB WEAVER.
Quite a spikey looking fellow isn't he :D if the birds don't get him, you'll be able to take more shots of him ......... thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys and gals for the the feedback.

This critter has me fascinated, so I tried to get a better shot today. Even fed it a fresh fly to get the critter to pounce on it. And pounce it did! Had it wrapped up and back in the corner of the web in less than a minute. Meanwhile I am shooting with my new lens like crazy and am excited about what I THINK I got. Then I remembered that I turned off the VR off last night while doing tripod shots. DOH!

So this is the best I could do today. I will try again tomorrow when the sun strikes the web in morning.

The grab - seems to be laughing. Looks like a jack-o-lantern.
    Or Ross Perot:D
