First off this is two consecutive frames...center weighted metering...one shot AF...iso 400. The first frame was metered on the sky and the second on the moon...focus recompose (or meter recompose). I blurred the sky shot and sharpened the moon shot...feathered the mask a few pixels and layed the moon shot (which was masked to include only the moon) on top of the sky shot and merged them.
That's probably as clear as mud...a teacher I am not.:D

I used the Canon 300L f/4 with 1.4 TC for 420mm on my 30D...so 1.6 X 420 = 672mm (field of view crop).
Yes, your lens will work.
