I can't believe it I've been after a shot like this all summer!! :barb

I was sitting on the back porch having a smoke this morning and low and behold I saw this guy at my Wife's flowers.
I said holy.....well you know. :D
All I had on my camera was the ole Sigy 80-400mm.
I snapped about 6 frames.....ran back in the house to get my Sigy 105mm Macro and he was gone! :rolleyes

Taken at ISO 200 cuz it was a lil breezy out.
Handheld with the OS on.
Taken in RAW.
Had to clone a few small stems out.

Is shot #2 hurt by the closer part of the wing not being in focus?

Fall seems to be the best time for butterflies...Monarchs anyway. They seem slower and light longer. I've had several over the years land on me.

    Nice capture! :D

Nothing wrong with that. I haven't got a real good one yet this year.

Nice shots! I just got my first butterflies last weekend so I know how you feel :D

The oof wing on the second shot doesn't bother me at all. I actually think it helps keep the eye on all the terrific detail at the body of the butterfly and the center of the flower.

    Thanks for sharing! thumb.gif

    Your so right Awais!
I have gotten some amazing "Macro Style" pics with this lens.
I can keep my distance...it gives me frame filling crop images and it gives me nice BOKAH! Says nothing on it about macro. headscratch.gif
I'm even amazed by it!! :eek1

    Great captures, good work.

I like the first the most because all is in focus.

    Thanks for sharing.

Well congratulations ........these look great, yep I recall reading an excellent report over on Fred's about not needing to use Macro Lenses to get Macro Shots and yours is a fine example of what they were talking about........ well done clap.gif ....... Skippy (Australia)

Nice shots! I like #2 coz you've got the eye more in focus than #1. If you frequent macro boards, you'll see the guys focus (:D) on the eyes in their comments. (btw, for something as large as a butterfly this size, you're not really gaining that much by using a macro lens if you're trying to get the whole beast in!)
